Sometimes I like veggie burgers that taste like actual vegetables and not meat substitute which are good too but in moderation. This can be made with any veggie burgers I used organic ones by Strong Roots. I like to marinate the burgers a bit before cooking. Here’s how I do it:
Ingredients
2-4 veggie burgers
1 red onion sliced in big rings
2 tbs soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tbs agave nectar
1 tsp brown sugar
2-4 slices vegan cheese I used Violife mature white cheddar
Mix the soy sauce, sesame oil and agave nectar in a bowl, add a dash of hot sauce if you want it spicy, drizzle over the veggie burgers and set aside to marinate. In a large skillet add a tbs or 2 of veg oil, I used organic sunflower oil add the onions and brown sugar and a dash of salt and simmer for 10-20 mins on low flame till browned and caramelized, remove from skillet and add the burgers, cook 3-4 mins on each side till browned add the onions back to the skillet place the cheese on the burgers cover with a lid and cook till cheese melts, serve on buns or as is without bread and condiment of choice. I’m not a big fan of ketchup so I drizzled with a bit of sriracha.
